Get To Know

The Bystander effect is known as a psychological condition in which a person observes the occurrence of an individual phenomenon that needs help without taking any action of empathy, and this psychological condition appears for only a few moments and provides a new spectrum of thought such as someone else helping the individual. this effect will lose an opportunity to help individuals who really need help.

Indeed, every situation does have its own differences, not at one time the phenomena that occur will be the same in other areas, cannot be compared apple to apple quoting Descartes, the famous French philosopher, Cogito ergo sum is an expression which means “I think, therefore I am” from this expression, humans are creatures who can think, so humans should be able to know the capabilities of their own abilities in providing assistance in an empathetic way.

The form of assistance is not always in the form of money or goods, but the form of communication can also be of more value than in the form of money. all phenomena of social problems are solved in nominal terms, being a good listener and an active communicator can provide a positive response and impact for someone.

Individual Stages of Bystander Effect

Stand up to make a choice

Some of the stages that occur by the bystander effect are more or less like :
1. The incident occurred where the individual was at that location

2. The individual knows that something has happened (Feeling ambiguous, analyzing phenomena)

3. Interpret the event as an emergency (confused in response)

4. Take action to provide help (Lack of competence does not know how to help)

5. Determine ways to help (depending on the situation and conditions)

6. The last step is to give help

but most individuals stop at the first to third stages considering the need for short-term thinking to take an action based on the factors presented

the author’s perspective on the phenomena that occur

Example of Bystander effect

Therefore, the bystander effect must be completely broken and not become a culture for an individual or group considering that the bystander effect occurs due to two factors, namely the emergence of lazy attitudes and low levels of sympathy but still based on rational thinking and understanding how phenomena occur and what we are capable of help him.
